OWNERS UNITED

Who Are We

We are a collective of property owners (both commercial and residential) that feel the new tax assessment for the Town of Wellsville is arbitrary and not truly representative of the actual real estate value for our community.  We are not against a fair and true assessment, however we do not feel the recent assessment is in line with the actual market property values for our area.

Next Steps

On April 23 we had our first meeting at the David A Howe Library to discuss options for us moving forward.  Our first option is to contest our property tax assessment with the Town.  In order to do so, you must file a Grievance with the Town and that must be delivered to the Town Assessor by May 27th.

To file a grievance, you can contact the Assessor, Joe Dannheim at 585-593-1780 Ext. 6 or by email to sharedassessor@gmail.com

You can also go to the NYS site that outlines all of your rights and provides a link to the required paperwork.  That is:

https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/contest/grievproced.htm

For all property owners that want to file a grievance, we plan to have another meeting on May 7th at 6pm at the David A Howe Library.  We invite you to join whether you are a commercial or residential property owner of you would like to be part of our group in fighting for fair and reasonable property taxes. If you want to attend, please sign up below.

What If We Don't Win

In the event that the grievance process is not successful, then we have an option to file a law suit against the Town.  We have recently been in contact with the law firm that won a suit against Cuba NY for an illegal tax levy last year.  If there is enough of us to join together then that cost becomes very manageable ($500-$2000 per property).  Our hope is that the Town responds in a reasonable way so that this is not a needed option.
